Prospect Place mansion in Trinway, Ohio, near Dresden, is off the beaten path for many paranormal investigators, but a worthwhile place to visit. On July 14 I spent an investigation night there organized by the Buckeye State Paranormal Investigations group, led by Gene Lafferty. The 19th-century mansion has a history of varied haunting activity, the highlight of which manifested for me in photographs of a mysterious moving shadow in the barn.

Prospect Place was built by George Williston Adams, a prominent businessman whose family arrived in Ohio in 1808. George and his brother made their money with a flour mill and merchandising. When the Civil War broke out, Adams supported the North, and turned his home into an underground railroad safe haven for runaway slaves. It became one of the largest underground railroad stations in the state of Ohio.

Adams died in 1879. The mansion is on the National Historic Register and is under private ownership today. It is in a state of restoration, and some areas are not open to the public. The grounds include a barn. Family members were once buried on the property, but most markers are gone.

Haunting activity in the mansion includes shadow people or figures, especially in the basement; the ghost of a boy who drags his foot; in what was once the ballroom and apparitions in the barn, where hangings reportedly once took place. Some of the bedrooms also are active with presences that make themselves heard, felt and seen. Apparitions also have been seen on the grounds.

Of the infrared photographs I took throughout the mansion, two seemed to show something that might be paranormal. I took two photos in succession from the same spot in the upstairs of the barn. A dark shadow appears in both photos with evident movement. I had the photos evaluated by Karl Petry, my psychic associate who has excellent skill in “seeing” paranormal content in photos. Our assessment is that the shadow is probably an imprint haunting active in the barn. Below, the barn taken with flash, and then two succeswsive IR shots.

My thanks to Gene for hosting me, and my appreciation to the investigators for sharing an interesting night! That’s me with Gene below, and with Niki B. (left) and Darcy Ivory.
