I recently took my fourth trip to the exceptionally haunted Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Louisville, KY, and had a new experience involving entities I had not encountered there before. They reminded me of “gray” ETs, and they may be related to the Shadow People for which Waverly is famous. I’m intrigued by the grays, which others saw as well. Other highlights: my first sighting of what I think was “Big Black,” and some spirit releasement and communication.
The following are short descriptions of major phenomena I experienced on this trip. These are subjective and personal, and I do not present them as proof of the paranormal. A lot of my work deals with the personal, subjective side of the paranormal. My own psychic experiences are what led me into research of this field. I think our experiences help us to understand the unseen, and that patterns of experiences have been documented throughout human history. My research into folklore, anecdotal experience and scientific evidence is aimed at furthering our insights into this mysterious side of life.
The two nights of investigation were part of a Darkness Events haunted weekend with about 70 participants. The featured presenters and investigators, besides myself, were John Zaffis, Adam Blai, Patrick Burns, Chris Fleming, and Chad Calek. Patti Starr also presented. The rest of us worked on different floors each night to facilitate the group investigations.
A quick background for those of you unfamiliar with Waverly: It was a leading tuberculosis sanitorium in the early 20th century, and thousands died there during an epidemic in the 1920s and 1930s. Later it became a nursing home, and was shut down in the 1960s for patient abuse. It fell into ruins, and now is under private ownership and restoration. The facility is huge, with five floors, and long corridors. All floors are active with haunting phenomena; floors three and four are especially known for their Shadow People, large, dark human-shaped forms that flit in and out of doorways and sometimes follow investigators.
“Big Black” is one of these shadow figures, huge – at an estimated 7 feet tall – and more aggressive than other figures. Big Black approaches people and gets close. I think Big Black tracked some of my groups on the second night of investigations on the third floor.
On the first night, I was stationed on the second floor with Adam Blai. Everyone had free reign to go where they wanted that night, rather than structured rotation. Adam and I spent quite a bit of time in a hot spot in the old cafeteria area. A presence paced back and forth in part of the area, making audible sounds of muffled footsteps and scraping noises. It seemed either stuck in place or reluctant to venture beyond certain bounds. A dark, malevolent entity came and went in the room. We surmised that perhaps the pacing presence, a human ghost, was menaced by the malevolent entity.
Toward the end of the evening, Adam and I went up to the third floor and sat at the “hot” end of the corridor by ourselves. This is where I first noticed the “grays.” A wave or curtain of gray, like film or smoke, moved rapidly down the corridor and past us, and then I saw these entities about four feet tall, who were smoky gray as well. Although they felt “alien,” they did not have the big black “bug eyes” associated with the abducting grays from UFO literature. Since my research into Shadow People has ventured into an ET connection, I wondered if the grays had some direct association with the Shadow People at the sanitorium. I think that some SPs are monitors and watchers of us, perhaps part of a broader ET monitoring program. Most of these monitors seem to fall into the bedside visitor category, but it is possible that haunted locations afford “bases” for activity as well.
Later I learned that others had seen the grays, too, on other floors. For example, John Zaffis had seen them clearly on the first floor. They were seen the second night of our event as well. The grays did not attempt any interaction or communication, at least that I was made aware of, but watched us like the Shadow People do.
After hours – 3 to 4 AM — the presenters divided up and took two small groups around the facility, special tours that were part of a charity auction. We went to every floor. On the first floor, we returned to the morgue, where I had done some spirit releasement work on my previous trip to Waverly (described in another blog entry). I did the same thing I did before – I climbed into one the trays where corpses had been stored, laid down, and was pushed back into the rack. This time, a young man named Gene came, someone who seems to have been involved in the administrative end of Waverly. He was much harder to help than the young woman from the last experience in terms of the energy required on my end. When I felt that he went over, one of the K2 meters in the group spiked abruptly. The person holding it said she felt as though a wave of energy had passed by.
On the second night, I worked by myself as facilitator on the third floor, and small groups rotated through all the floors. The floor was quite active with Shadow People. Toward the end of the night, between 2-3 AM, a hulking black figure showed up, and alternately crouched down, stood up and moved around. It matched descriptions of the behavior of Big Black. Fortunately, the figure did not advance real close, but it radiated an intense interest in us.
The little grays showed up again, too.
Also on the third floor, we had an active small room in which two presences communicated with us, via K2 meter response and mediumistic impressions. One was a young male in his mid-twenties, who showed up several times in bursts of energy and then left abruptly. I couldn’t learn much about him. At the very end of the night, with the last group to come through, we got another man who communicated that he was there because his wife was still there – that she had been a nurse or someone in service, and was lingering out of a sense of responsibility to help those still at Waverly. Whether she was attending stuck souls or was somehow stuck in time, we didn’t know. He was not leaving her behind. It was a poignant story, and we ended the night in prayer for them and for those who were at Waverly in service or as patients.
The next Darkness event will be at The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, CO, Nov. 15-18, and this time Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson will be back on board. I had my first trip there in March, and it’s a fantastic place in all respects. It’ll be a sellout once again – for information go to www.darknessradio.com/trips or www.paranormaltrips.com. See you there!
