Hi Folks,

October is “high season” for all of us in the paranormal, with lots of spooky events and media going on. I’ll be on the road and on air a lot this month. Here are the news highlights for October:

TELEVISION and DVDs
I am featured in four episodes of Season 2 of The Lost Tapes on The Animal Planet. The first two aired 9/29, Vampire and Lizard Man. I will be on Werewolf Oct. 13, 10 PM Eastern. Alien will air November 10.

Season 4 of Supernatural is out on DVD, and I am featured in the extras, a beautiful documentary-quality production on the backgrounds of many of the episodes and the mythology, history and lore behind the scripts. The world television premiere of both The Possessed and Children Of The Grave, docu-dramas from the Booth Brothers, will air on SyFy October 8th, 9 Eastern PM Central. I join other experts on the paranormal, including John Zaffis, Troy Taylor and Keith Age, discussing the real cases involved. NEW BOOK RELEASES

Romancing the Vampire
This is one of the most gorgeous books I have ever seen on vampires, and I am thrilled to be a part of it. Romancing the Vampire is a collector’s book, hardcover in a slipcase, loaded with art, postcards, reproductions of movie tickets, flyers and souvenirs. David J. Skal, an expert on vampires, especially in cinema, provides the content, taking the reader through vampire history, lore, literature, film and pop culture. I wrote the afterword, and provided many pieces of art from my collection. Out this month from Whitman Publishing.

The Encyclopedia of Demons & Demonology
My newest encyclopedia, out last month, has already gone back to press! My publisher Facts On File says this about it –

Ackroyd & Ackroyd on Ghosts
Ever wonder about the origins of Ghostbusters, one of the biggest paranormal comedy hit movies of all time? Written by Dan Ackroyd and Harold Ramis, the 1984 film stars Ackroyd, Ramis, Bill Murray, Rick Moranis, Sigourney Weaver, Annie Potts and Ernie Hudson. Ackroyd has long acknowledged a serious personal interest in the paranormal, but now more of the family story is told. Dan’s father, Peter Ackroyd, is the author (with Angela Narth) of A History of Ghosts: The True Story of Seances, Mediums, Ghosts and Ghostbusters just out this month in hardcover from Rodale Publishing.

The Ackroyd family was steeped in paranormal experience, thanks to Samuel Augustus Ackroyd, Peter’s grandfather and Dan’s great-grandfather. In the early years of the 20th century, Samuel hosted regular home circle seances with mediums, which fascinated young Peter. Peter, Dan, and Dan’s brother Peter J. relate some of their compelling paranormal experiences growing up. The sensitivity in the family seems to be passing on down through the generations, as Dan comments that one of his daughters seems to attract photographic anomalies.

A History of Ghosts is an engaging and informative read. It dovetails right in with the book I am writing with George Noory on the high-tech end of spirit communications. What’s more, I am especially delighted to see my books The Encyclopedia of Ghosts and Spirits and Harper’s Encyclopedia of Mystical and Paranormal Experience quoted and cited throughout!

Dreams & Astral Travel
That’s the title of my new release in the young adult series that I edit and write for, Mysteries, Legends and Unexplained Phenomena. Dreams and Astral Travel covers the psychic side of dreams and their relationship to astral projection and travel, lucid dreaming, and using dream programming, or incubation, for guidance. Though young adult, it appeals to readers of all ages as a good introduction. Out in hardcover from Chelsea House.
