“At the Crossroads of Time, Space and Infinity”

It’s been a long, hard winter for us all, and I’ve spent most of it burrowed in at home in Connecticut writing and developing new projects. In this issue: a few news items, upcoming events, and this month’s feature article, “The Future Newspaper Psychic Skill Builder,” a technique for improving your psychic ability.

News
My newest book contract is for a book on ghosts and hauntings in Salem, Massachusetts, for Stackpole Books. Salem is one of my all-time favorite paranormal destinations! My research will dovetail nicely with the classes I will be giving this spring at Omen, Christian Day’s new teaching center. Christian, one of Salem’s most prominent Witches, owns the popular Hex shop. No dates have been set yet for the classes, but the time frame is week nights in April-May.

I’ve just gotten confirmation that I will be a guest presenter at this year’s Dragon*Con in Atlanta over Labor Day weekend. This marks my fourth consecutive appearance at this fabulous event, and once again I will look forward to doing panels and talks on the X Track, Writer’s Track and Dark Goth Track. Dragon*Con gets bigger and better every year!

The Djinn are in! Increasing attention is being focused on the Djinn (or Jinn) of Arabian mythology, soon to be seen in Clash of the Titans (opening April 2) and in a new film by Exodus Pictures called Jinn, starting production this spring. All this and more makes the book on the subject, Djinn: The Hidden Ones, that I just completed with Philip J. Imbrogno for Llewellyn very timely! We hope to see the book out toward the end of the year.

Events
My classes on vampires, werewolves, demons and psychic protection for the International Metaphysical University were rescheduled from February to March due to the relentless winter weather. They will be held on a weekend, March 20-21 in Parkersburg, VA. I’ll be covering history, myth, folklore, pop culture, cases, and practical considerations. The classes are open to the public. Check out the details at www.myspace.com/hauntedparkersburg

The big conference event this month is EPIC Con in Virginia Beach, VA at the Cavalier Hotel March 12-14. I’ll be making the drive down with my good friend John Zaffis… wow, 10 hours in the car with Johnny! See www.epiccon.com

Since I haven’t learned how to bilocate yet, I’ll have to pass on another great event the same weekend in Providence, RI, the annual tribute to the master horror writer, H.P. Lovecraft, organized by my friend Carl L. Johnson. Details from Carl are below:

The H.P. Lovecraft Tribute Service will take place on Sunday, March 14, at the 1891 Ladd Observatory, frequented by H.P. Lovecraft in his boyhood years. Christian Henry Tobler, historian author of erudite and splendidly illustrated texts on German medieval combat, will preside as our Master of Ceremonies.

In the years since the first such occasion held on March 15, 1987 the H.P. Lovecraft Tribute Service has become something of a Rhode Island tradition! Typically this annual event draws in excess of 130 persons. Gothic or vintage style attire is encouraged.

After the proceedings at Ladd Observatory, all will be invited to gather at the gravesite of H.P. Lovecraft in Swan Point Cemetery, precisely two miles north from the performance setting.

Event Title: H.P. Lovecraft…Revealed
Event Date: Sunday, March 14, 2010
Event Time: 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Event Location: Ladd Observatory, 210 Doyle Avenue at the corner of Hope Street, Providence, Rhode Island.
Event Organizer: Carl L. Johnson, Founder, H.P. Lovecraft Commemorative Activities Committee.
Master of Ceremonies: Christian Henry Tobler, author and historian who resides in Oxford, CT.
Admission: Free public attendance.
Program Content: We will commence with Mr. Tobler delivering a greeting and a “eulogy” briefly encapsulating the life and literary career of H.P. Lovecraft. Then there will be dramatic recitations of H.P. Lovecraft’s poetry and prose offered by competent performers.

March Feature Article
The Future Newspaper Psychic Skill Builder

The Future Newspaper is an exercise designed to help you improve your psychic skill. It is based on a test once used in psychical research with mediums. The idea came from Gladys Osborne Leonard, a famous British medium who had excelled at “book tests,” or giving accurate information from books she could see clairvoyantly in distant locations.

Relax in a comfortable seated position. Close your eyes and visualize the newspaper that will be published the next day. Make the visualization as vivid as possible. Hold the newspaper; feel the texture and weight of it in your hands. Smell the newsprint and ink. See tomorrow’s date clearly printed on the banner. Now read the major headline on the front page. What will tomorrow’s headlines news be?

If you read your news online, visualize the screen and follow the same procedure. For physical cues, feel your desktop or laptop, or mobile.

Take a deep breath and let the image dissolve. Open your eyes and make a written record of what you saw. Also note any physical or emotional sensations that are part of the experience. You may discover that certain sensations or feelings are a part of your psychic skill, and will help you validate when you are getting reliable psychic impressions.

On the next day, check the news against what you saw with your inner eye. How accurate was your vision of the headline? Did you see some of the same words or all of them? Did you see a similar, but not same, event? Perhaps you saw news of an accident, but the kind of accident was wrong.

Do this exercise every day. The best time is in the morning, before you have been exposed to any news that might subconsciously influence you (such as the latest developments in an ongoing news story). Do not try to anticipate news based on knowledge you already have. As we know from experience, any day can bring surprises in the news.

Make the Future Newspaper exercise more complex as you progress. Here are different things to try: Increase the number of headlines you see. Note their position on the page. Open the psychic newspaper and read different pages. Note the headlines and the numbers of the pages they are on. Read the stories under the headlines to learn details. Advance in time. See the newspaper that will be published in a week’s time. Pick a date several months away and read that newspaper with the inner eye. Does your accuracy improve or decrease the farther out you move in time?

The more you do this exercise, the more you will improve your accuracy and the amount of detail you can see in advance.

This exercise helps to improve sensing the future, and can help decision making for all sorts of matters – even planning trips to get the most out of them.

Here’s another tip – use this exercise to help manifest your goals. See yourself in the headlines, and put a desired date on the page.

A couple of my friends have been recommending your posts recently, but I never took the time to look initially. Now that I’ve actually Having now read your work I must say that it is very, very good and I really hope this continues as long as you are well enough to write. Sometimes, it helps me get through hard times since I like to read sites I’m interested in to relax. Your writing helps me to do just that. I am extremely appreciative of that, definitely. Just a quick question, how long have you been doing this for? I’m simply wondering because I am seriously considering starting to write myself. Naturally, if you don’t care to let me know, I understand completely, and I wish you luck with your pursuits nonetheless. Your site is awesome!
