After a long and dreary winter, spring hits with a bang! I am already back out on the paranormal road. This month’s feature, after News and Events, spotlights Shadow People, a topic of ongoing research for me, and the subject of a lecture I am giving in Salem, MA on May 4 at the new Omen Center.

New book deals! Philip J. Imbrogno and I have signed a contract to co-author a second book for Llewellyn, this one on paranormal hot zones and portals. The book will develop our ongoing research into interdimensional contact experiences. Our book on the Djinn is in production and will be released by Llewellyn in January 2011. In addition, I have signed a contract with Stackpole Books to write a book on the ghosts and hauntings of Salem, MA.

LECTURES AT OMEN! Speaking of Salem, my friend Christian Day, the owner of the Hex shop downtown, has the grand opening of his new Omen center on April 3, 7-9 PM, 184 Essex Street. Classes and workshops will be offered at Omen, and I will be giving a five-part lectures series on a variety of paranormal topics on Tuesday evenings beginning April 27, 7:30-9 PM. Looks like I’ll be spending a lot of time in one of my favorite haunted cities! April 26 and 27 I will be in Waynesburg, PA, doing benefit appearances for Sustaining Greene County. I will lead a ghost hunt Friday night and give an afternoon lecture on ghosts and hauntings on Saturday.

I have terminated my relationship as a faculty member of the International Metaphysical University, based in Parkersburg, WV, and will not be offering any lectures, classes or workshops through them.

EPIC Con 2011! Teddy Skyler’s first EPIC Con in Virginia Beach last month was a terrific debut. We all had a blast. John Zaffis and I will return in 2011, not only to do our own lectures, but to offer together a class on demonology. A note on investigations: Most of my investigations are conducted privately. I collect data for research and I want to be in as controlled circumstances as possible with a focused agenda. I do enjoy the public and event-oriented ghost hunts, however, and continue to do those as the opportunities arise. I give many demonstrations of the MiniBox for those who are curious about how it operates.

Shadow People: Nighttime Visitors You Don’t Want to See

They’re one of the most terrifying paranormal experiences a person can have: Shadow People. Their identity and origin are a mystery. But if you ever see one, you’ll never forget it.

Shadow People are dark, silhouetted figures that show up unexpectedly and strike fear into the hearts of witnesses. Shadow People are in haunted places, woodlands – and especially inside of homes. In most experiences, the Shadow People are bedroom visitors who shock sleepers.

In a typical encounter, a person wakes up during the night to see what appears to be the silhouette of a tall man wearing a coat or cape and hat. He is standing beside the bed, or in the doorway, or in a corner. The figure is watching the sleeper with great intensity, though no eyes or facial features are visible. The figure is solid, blacker than black, and is capable of blocking light and the view of objects.

There is no communication – just an emanation of malevolence and evil. If the witness screams, the figure vanishes suddenly, sometimes into thin air, or by disappearing through a wall or the ceiling. Sometimes it retreats into a closet – or underneath the bed!

People of all ages have Shadow People experiences. Some people have repeated experiences, and sometimes entire families are visited by these mysterious entities. What are they? Ghosts? Demons? People from another dimension? And why do they want to watch people at night?

I’ve been studying Shadow People for several years, and I have collected hundreds of personal encounters with them. I’ve examine them from the perspectives of folklore, paranormal phenomena, waking dream images, the Old Hag syndrome, psychological disturbances and sleep disorders.

I believe Shadow People are beings from another dimension who are capable of entering our physical reality. They seem to be interested in observing and perhaps monitoring us. Exactly who they are is uncertain, but they seem to have strong links to extraterrestrials, who also have a history of monitoring human beings, and to the Djinn, of whom many are antagonistic towards humans. Though they radiate malevolence, I do not think Shadow People are demons. They may use fear as a way to keep people from probing into their nature and purpose.

Why do they wear coats and hats? The hats are usually outdated styles. Sometimes their headgear looks more like a helmet. Their appearance may have to do with how they can – or want – to appear. The coat and hat may disguise features about them that would reveal their nature and purpose.

For most experiencers, once is more than enough. Even describing the experience can evoke extreme anxiety and fear. A single visit by a Shadow Person can cause a person to sleep with a light on for years.

Shadow People have been documented in folklore around the world. They seem to have been part of our world for a very long time. Their mission remains unknown.
