SARAH ESTEP: REST IN PEACE

Today I attended the funeral and burial of a great lady: Sarah Estep, the founder of the American Association of Electronic Voice Phenomena. Sarah died on January 3, of kidney failure, following a two-week illness. She was 81.

Everyone who has ever done EVP for investigations, research or personal study owes Sarah a huge debt. She has left behind a phenomenal legacy: the AA-EVP, an international research organization she established in 1982; a classification of voices; a library of thousands of recordings she herself made over the years; and inspiration and passion that have fueled countless researchers.

I became friends with Sarah several years ago, when I lived a few miles from her home in Annapolis, Maryland. She was warm, witty and wonderful company, and she generously let me listen to many of her EVP recordings, and even experiment with her original reel-to-reel setup, shown in the photograph I took of her in her study. She possessed a great store of knowledge, and a zest for investigating the unknown, especially the afterlife and survival.

Things come full circle in remarkable ways. The casket that now serves as the final resting place of Sarah’s physical form was also the beginning of her remarkable study of the afterlife. As a child, she once sneaked peeks into caskets at the funeral parlor owned by her grandparents in Altoona, Pennsylvania. It seemed obvious to her that death was an end, final.

Later in life, she undertook EVP experiments to prove to herself that there is no survival after death. Night after night she recorded without results. Just as she was about to give up, she recorded a clear female voice that said, “Our world is one of beauty.” She was a believer.

One of her most remarkable EVPs was, “Death no more a casket.”

Sarah is now on the Other Side, discovering wonders that we here on this side only glimpse. Undoubtedly we will hear much from her – she’s quite determined when she sets her mind to a task.

The service for Sarah was lovely, and daughter Becky gave a moving eulogy. Three white doves were released at graveside in Annapolis. Among those attending were Tom and Lisa Butler, who have led the AA-EVP at its Reno headquarters since 2000, and Richard Shenk, a longtime AA-EVP member and researcher from Delaware.

Sarah’s last public appearance was in 2006, at the AA-EVP conference in Atlanta. She delivered a marvelous speech on her career in EVP, and was recognized with a lifetime achievement award.

The AA-EVP is establishing a memorial fund in Sarah’s name to help continue research. Contributions may be made to the AAEVP, PO Box 1311, Reno, NV 89507.

My article on Sarah, her life and research (FATE Magazine, December 2004), is posted on my website at http://www.visionaryliving.com/articles/estep.php.

###

C2C SHOW ON FRANK'S BOX AND THE MINI-BOX

Last night’s C2C show with George Noory on Frank’s Box and similar ITC devices went well despite the limitations of the broadcast studio in Sherman Oaks, CA. We were just too well shielded for the boxes to scan properly. I had on hand my Frank’s Ghost Box 22, Ron Ricketts’ very first Mini-Box to come out of production, the Radio Shack Hack, and a Craig’s Box, a modified Daewoo car stereo done by Craig Telesha. In addition, I had a gold-beryllium alloy antenna made by Marcus Leader.

There’s no doubt about it, the box technologies and spirit communication are hot topics, and will continue to be in the spotlight, especially as more people are able to obtain a device. Hopefully, this will lay to rest the nonsense about a “circle of 30” or any such ridiculous claims of monopoly on who can and should use boxes. Box technology is already democratic. As more people obtain and work with them, many possibilities for coordinated research and experiments will unfold.

As an interdimensional interface, the boxes are neutral. They are not dark, demonic, negative, etc., as some fearful people worry. Negative experiences are always possible, just as in any work in the paranormal. People who don’t know what they are doing, who are in it for a lark, and who harbor fears and anxieties about the paranormal are not well-suited to any kind of paranormal exploration, whether it’s with a box, in automatic writing, or with a deck of Tarot cards.

Rick Moran, the executive director of the Association for the Study of Unexplained Phenomena, the sponsors of the research for the Mini-Box, shared some observations with me after the show that illuminate the topic. Here are his comments:

There is a connection between every one of the designers/technicians who have worked on the box from its inception by Spiricom. Every one of them was a licensed Ham Radio Operator, including Frank, Ron and Myself.

Someone asked about different antennas… because of the Ham connection, that has been done already. The original Spiricom was an enormous device and operated on the ham bands because it was the only part of the spectrum that could offer a clear channel. They tried both vertical and horizontal antennas. We did the same in our early devices, both Ron and I have “antenna farms” as do many of the ASUP investigators, who are also hams.

Spiricom sounded very robotic, due in part to the equipment being used… tubes and crystals to set the frequency. This was common practice through the 1980s. I recently heard someone spouting a theory that because the Spiricom used a crystal system, it was somehow mystical in nature. Crystals were used in all ham radios, all military radios and a lot of commercial applications… nothing mystical at all.

In your discussion last night, George did not even mention the EARTH SOUNDS project at NASA on the Ultra Low Frequency Bands. Down there NASA has been hearing “voices” for years, which they admit, they can’t explain. As you might have already guessed, that is one of our upcoming projects. The great problem there is the length of the antenna, to do it right an ULF antenna would be buried and would be about 11 MILES long. In the production model of the MiniBox, Ron hand tuned the antennas, winding row upon row of fine wire to match the necessary length of the frequencies being scanned, another difference that helped to eliminate noise and upgrade the voice quality.

Thanks, Rick. And thanks to Frank, Ron, Craig, Marcus and all the other researchers in the ITC field.

Some links of interest:
Spiricom: http://www.worlditc.org/k_06_spiricom.htm
Frank’s Box schematics: http://www.keyportparanormal.com/ghostb ... atics.html

Mini-Box: http://www.paranormalsystems.com

EVP-ITC Forum: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/EVP-ITC/
###

"CHILDREN OF THE GRAVE" DVD REVIEWS

By: Alyne A. Pustanio/Haunted America
http://www.hauntedamericatours.com/
http://www.myspace.com/hauntedamericatours

“Children of the Grave” is the highly-anticipated follow-up to the Booth Brothers’ 2006 documentary “Spooked: The Ghosts of Waverly Hills Sanatorium” and like its predecessor this film delivers non-stop chills from the very first frame.

Easily one of the most informative and well-researched documentaries in the “para-reality” genre, “Children of the Grave” is also something many other such films are not: genuinely sensitive to the subject matter and respectful of how it is presented.

In “Children of the Grave” the Booth Brothers have assembled a team of leading paranormal experts who together delve into the sad, disturbing history surrounding the thousands of cast-off children who once passed through the somber halls of America’s orphanages. Many of these now-desolate places were likely not much more welcoming when fully-operating generations ago. As the expert cinematography of the Booth Brothers so aptly reveals, some of the larger institutions had all the appeal of oversized mausoleums.

Cast into these grim surrogate Victorian mothers – some of which were still operational well into the 20th century - were the abandoned, the unwanted, the neglected, the abused of America’s children. Stripped of all vestiges of childhood (in many cases even their names were replaced with numbers) the children subsisted in the orphanage netherworld until they were adopted out (sometimes to even worse fates), mercifully outgrew the institutions, or, anonymous and forgotten, died.

And as the Booth Brothers show us, death is only the beginning of the story.

Over a ten-day period, trekking across six states, the Booth Brothers and their team of experts conduct on-site investigations of some of the most notorious orphanages in the Midwestern United States, at least one of which – Pythian Castle – is preserved in good condition.

The viewer watches as each layer of the story of these ill-treated and once-forgotten orphans unfolds through narration and visual imagery that only heightens the tension. The sites are creepy enough on their own, but as the evidence of documented paranormal activity begins to mount, the viewer is transfixed and it becomes immediately obvious that this documentary will merit a second and even a third viewing to absorb everything that is presented.

In two instances – the first being the team’s investigation of the Pythian Castle tunnels and the second being the hunt conducted on demon-haunted Zombie Road – every concept of reality, of what is real and genuine, is challenged by the camera’s unaltered images. The stark reminders of the unseen all around us that are delivered in these segments will thrill “believers” and could give the staunchest skeptic pause.

The paranormal experts chosen by the Booth Brothers each lend a particular focus to the investigation and the film. Authorities such as John Zaffis, Troy Taylor and Rosemary Ellen Guiley anchor the investigation with important facts concerning the nature of hauntings by children; the team in the field, led by Keith Age, Greg Myers and the Booth Brothers themselves, backs up this insight with haunting video and EVP (electronic voice phenomena) captures.

In the end, however, more than attempting to convince us that the ghosts we see are real or that paranormal events can be documented, the Booth Brothers accomplish their true purpose and that is to strip the forgotten children of the grave of their anonymity, to put faces and stories with the numbers etched on tombstones in desolate, lonely cemeteries, and to make them memorable in death so that in a small way they can never be forgotten again.

View this documentary. It is a stunning piece of work.

ORDER A COPY at: http://www.visionaryliving.com/books.php

CHILDREN OF THE GRAVE

A Booth Brothers Horror Documentary featuring Keith Age, John Zaffis, Rosemary Ellen Guiley, Troy Taylor, Steven LaChance and Greg Myers with The Louisville Ghost Hunters Society and The Paranormal Task Force
__________________________
Review by Lee Prosser - leep@ghostvillage.com
Ghostvillage.com review

Philip Adrian Booth and Christopher Saint Booth have put together a remarkable look at children of the grave, those children lost and forgotten, and buried with only a number as a site marker. The film will hold your attention and is spooky! Locations for filming of haunted sites included the states of Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, and the city of Los Angeles.

Viewers will find the journey to Zombie Road and its shadow children near St. Louis, Missouri macabre viewing. For the first time, a photo shot accurately captured some of these dead shadow children on film and is shown, and discussed.

Pythian Castle, located at Springfield, Missouri, is also covered in-depth. That this orphanage has ghosts is evident. The structure was also used during World War II to interrogate Nazi prisoners of war. The brutal history of what happened at this location lives on in its ghosts, and there are psychics and sensitives who relate stories about it.

As a film about the paranormal and the supernatural, this should be among the viewer's top selections for the year 2007. Scary and riveting, this one will hold your attention from beginning to end. The documentary features such notable paranormal investigators as: Troy Taylor, Rosemary Ellen Guiley, John Zaffis, and Keith Age. If you are interested in the paranormal, don't miss this film!

Well crafted, historically accurate, concise, bluntly and honestly examined, truths revealed, exciting -- these are a few words that define this fine DVD about ghosts and the paranormal. Highly recommended.

ARE ETS BEHIND THE MYSTERIOUS GAS STATION BLUE LIGHT?

A strange blob of blue light photographed recently by a surveillance camera at a Parma, Ohio gas station has a lot of people looking for explanations. Witnesses have suggested ghosts and angels. The video and camera have yet to be examined, and a natural explanation cannot be ruled out. But if we’re left with the unexplained, I don’t think either ghost or angel are likely. Rather, I lean toward an ET or unknown alien energy, and talked about that on Coast to Coast AM with George Noory November 13.

The blob moved around, and appeared to hover over the area where the gas holding tanks are beneath the ground, and then hover over the pumps and two cars – one at the rear at the gas tank, and one over the hood. Were those deliberate movements of an intelligent presence – or the random movements of an insect on the camera lens? Camera experts note that the jumpy movements of the blob are insect-like. Another possible explanation put forward is a reflection of the station’s blue sign lights.

Is there a case for ET? Ohio – and especially the Cleveland area, to which Parma is near – have a history of high UFO activity. UFO and ET activity has been associated with power and energy sources. It’s my personal belief that we are under observation and monitoring by various beings, some of whom may be ETS and some of whom may be ultra-terrestrials, that is, beings associated with our reality but in another dimension. UFO and ET anecdotal experiences do encompass strange lights, including blue ones, that witnesses feel are beings.

In that scenario, the gas station light might be an otherworldly observer, drawn to an energy source.

An interesting sidelight: during my conversation with George, our phone connection suddenly cut off and I heard nothing but a busy signal. The connection was restored. That’s the first time I’ve ever lost a phone connection to Coast to Coast – or any radio show – and it’s odd that it happened during an ET-related discussion. Phone interferences are not unusual in ET/UFO cases, as well as other kinds of paranormal activity. A coincidence or not?

Most photographs and videos of seeming anomalies turn out to be something ordinary, but occasionally cameras do pick up images that defy explanation.

See the video and stills at:
http://www.neatorama.com/2007/11/13/gho ... ion-cloud/
http://www.local6.com/news/14578641/detail.html

FAERIES RULE!

Artists Brian and Wendy Froud were guests of honor, and many leading faery artists, authors and performers met and entertained the fans.

The crowd was full of faery costumes, too – a gorgeous event from start to finish, complete with two costume balls for Good Faeries and Bad Faeries.

Above -- Our table neighbors, artist Chris Boston, left, and her associate, Jule, all the way from Australia!

I’ve been out on the front lines of ghosts, hauntings and paranormal investigation for some time, but long-time readers know that my work and interests are quite diverse. I’ve been involved in the faery realm since the early 1990s in terms of my work, stimulated by some childhood experiences. Some of my experiences are told in my how-to book, “Fairy Magic,” which has been enjoying success on both sides of the Atlantic. See the books mart on my site, http://www.visionaryliving.com/books.php

I’ve also written articles on faeries – some have been published in FATE, and two of them are featured in FATE’s new book, “Our Faerie Best.” http://www.fatemag/com

The faeries (I prefer this spelling) have been at me for a while to become more active again, and I’m paying attention.
